Writing & Allyship Curriculum

At Stanhope, writing is more than a subject - it is a vehicle for expression, identity and social impact. Our Writing and Allyship Curriculum is deliberately designed to develop articulate, confident communicators who can use their voice to challenge injustice, celebrate diversity and shape the world around them.

Rooted in the National Curriculum and underpinned by evidence-based research, our approach is ambitious, language-rich and inclusive, ensuring every pupil progresses from early mark-making to sophisticated, purposeful composition. Pupils are immersed in high-quality, diverse texts that reflect their lived experiences and expand their worldview, enabling them to write with clarity, empathy and conviction .

Our unique allyship thread runs from Nursery to Year 6 - progressing from kindness and fairness to activism and leadership—ensuring pupils not only learn to write, but to stand up, speak out and act with integrity. Writing outcomes are purposeful, often linked to real audiences and meaningful change.

This high-level curriculum sets the strategic vision and progression. Beneath this, Medium-Term Plans (MTPs) provide carefully sequenced, unit-level implementation - ensuring consistency, reduced workload and exceptional quality in every classroom.

Through this approach, we truly live our motto: Empowering Every Heart, Inspiring Every Mind.
